Disclaimer, this video is used only for education and entertainment purposes, no fincancial gain is obtained from any of my videos.
This is an EICO ST-70 tube Intergrated amplifier built in The Good Ol' USA. It has very large and great iron (transformers) It sounds pretty vintage as it is warm sounding and the high frequencies roll out very early.

This is video is only for education and entertainment purposes only. No financial benefit is obtained on any of my videos. This is tube integrated amplifier made in the early 1960s in the state of New York. It's rated at 25 watts per channel, but in modern parameters, it would be closer to 20 RMS. It sounds pretty loud and has good dynamics considering the small EL 86 power tubes.

      But to be honest that's a fair price. I used to buy from Ebay back in 2003 and the prices were cheaper and lower than now. It was a place where people wanted to get some extra cash for something they didn't need and didn't want to throw in the trash. These days we have a lot of people trying to do business and scam people with their junk. I bought my Fisher 500C in 2017 for 430 dollars and my Fisher 400 the same year for 390. Completely functional and with the wooden case. These days they want to sell a Completely broken Fisher receiver for 700 dollars and 140 dollars for shipping, this is ridiculous. I feel sorry for someone buying that junk, as in most cases they can't be repaired. There are still honest sellers out there, you just have to find them. Right now I'm a collector, but when I decide to sell I want to pass these American made electronic gems to someone that will appreciate them and continue to care for future generations . I will sell them for a fair price when the moment comes.

    Maggies love tubes... I've got the new Magnepan LRS+ speakers being driven by the new (released Nov. 2023) Rogue Audio Chronus Mag3 DARK integrated amp and it sings beautifully. I've got the amp set to Triode mode, which lowers the power from 100W to 60W and it still has plenty of juice to play loudly. I researched the sub options extensively and concluded that the best pairing is with fast-bass type systems (needed to keep up with the dynamic, fast ribbon panels) , either open baffle or active servo controlled. Rythmik was recommended and I order a single 12" unit (L12) and it works great. The Rythmik system uses Direct Servo technology, which controls the woofer by using a sensing servo coil which acts like a microphone which compares the original signal to what the subwoofer is actually reproducing. The signal is then corrected instantly to compensate for any differences. Once you understand the concept, you may wonder like we do why anyone would make a subwoofer any other way, except I think they have a patent on it.

All I had was some full-range ported Acousticraft speakers, which were a step up from anything I listened to as a kid. A lot of these sophisticated decks (while sounding great) is a major involvement to have the belts replaced. I am not capable of doing myself and thus having a tech do it cost a lot of $. If the belts are destined to be replaced, why don't the engineers who designed the equipment position them in an easier to access spot? Many of the so-called clones on Ebay and Aliexpress are not close to the original design. I have seen a so-called First Watt F7 that didn't have a Transformer after the Buffer which is a integral part of the Circuit. So I would question whether this is a direct copy of the Marantz 7.

    • @manzanaresantonio
      @manzanaresantonio 11 місяців тому

      The Marantz 7 doesn’t have any boards, it A to point B connection. But nothing impressive inside. The thing is that it sounds good. Does it sound for the price that they ask for it, not it does not. The Xiang Sheng 728A sounds really good for it price, as long as you add high quality tubes. The real Marantz 7 doesn’t sound like 10 times better that this preamp. Let your ears be the judge and not what others tell you on how good it sounds!

    • @kft590
      @kft590 11 місяців тому

      @@manzanaresantonio The clone uses PCB's but that would not necessarily be why it doesn't sound as good as the Marantz 7. The clone may not even use the same circuit and that would likely be why it doesn't sound as good. The average quality of components available today are better than what Marantz had access to. The Chinese like to say things area copies but they are too lazy to actually make a real copy so they just say it is.

    The TA-230 which looks very close is from 1958 and was HKs first stereo receiver while the TA 260 is from 1961. They also introduced an optional mpx unit along with the 260. Not a lot of videos on these TA260s on UA-cam and only one is currently for sale on Ebay.

    • @manzanaresantonio
      @manzanaresantonio 11 місяців тому

      Actually these came out in 1960. But there's a tag on the inside/back of my receiver that says inspected on January 1959. I guess they were already being built before they hit the market. The TA-230 has smaller output transformers and that's why they are not as dynamic. The output transformers are what dictates how dynamic a receiver is and how much bass they can produce. Harman Kardons like the TA-260, A500 and A700 have very good and large output transformers.

Mine is dated March of 1961 and the transformer was built in late 1960. I agree you with the sounds is truly great even with my beat-up tubes. Yep, I know about the huge output transformers having way better sound! The filtering caps in the negative bias circuit for the output tubes were bad, one tested okay, but two were bad and one was even open. I have partially recapped the power supply and plan to do the last two cans soon (I have all parts already). HK really used the best parts as the only parts after 60+ years that even needs replacement are the electrolytic caps. The American Radionic film caps are mylar and still test spot on.

      @@manzanaresantonio I would at minimum check for physical leakage. It's fine however you do it I'm just saying the best practice is to recap all electrolytic filter caps especially if you're going to use it a lot. Like when my three negative bias caps in a can were leaking so I replaced them. I'd imagine those leaking caps could cook and eventually kill the expensive output tubes in short order. At least these later units use mylar caps(very stable) for stuff like the coupling caps and not paper caps(crap) that can blow up impossible to find output transformers or worse. A cap checker or a cheap lcr meter to check esr is not a bad idea either. I also have a digital multimeter that can also check caps to verify the value. I agree with integrated tube amps being so much easier to work on! Good luck.

    Damn 16 and a half hours, going to have to rethink my flight plan. Don't think I can sit in one spot for that long.

      Yes, those Ultra-Long hauls to Asia are tough. You have to walk around the cabin and exercise to promote circulation or you run the risk of having a blodclot. My neck was also hurting so bad from leaning against the window to sleep!

      Yes, those flights to Asia are called "Ultra Long Hauls", as they are seriously long flights!

    Are you still using this tube preamplifier now?

    • @manzanaresantonio
      @manzanaresantonio Рік тому

      I use it, but I have so many other toys to play with. I have this preamp on one of my main systems, but lately I have been playing with my vintage tube receivers and integrated amps. They all have their playing time.

      I am playing the bookshelf speakers that you see in the video. They are Polk Audio RTiA3, with Speaker stands filled with sand, they sound great and have good bass, even without my subwoofers on in this case, thy have good bass and impactful dynamics.

    Hello, I will be traveling on EVA Air next month on the same itinerary (IAH -> TPE @ 1 am) Would you kindly assist in answering 2 questions? 1) What were the dimensions of your carry on luggage? EVA website said no more than 22x14x9 but it's hard to find carry ons below this. I wondered if a slightly larger carry on like 23x14.5x9.5 would fit in the overhead bins. 2) Did you try to reach out to their customer service? If you did, what number did you call? I could never get through to them.

      @manzanaresantonio Рік тому

      Sorry I can't help you with that, as I only carry my computer and documents bag with me and my check in bag. They are a little strict on that as the flight is very long and they can encounter head winds, which can make the flight longer. Overall it's a nice experience flying with this airline.
